Staff Bios

Dr. Sharon E. Harris, Ph.D, Executive Director

New York State Licensed Psychologist, Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and  Co-Chair of the Glen Cove SAFE Coalition. Past President of the Glen Cove Interagency Council. Credentialed act as a Substance Abuse Professional under the Department of Transportation to administer the City of Glen Cove Employee Assistance Program.

Laurent Caballero, Bilingual Life Skills Training Facilitator/ Outreach Worker

Laurent Caballero provides evidence-based Life Skills Training workshops to parents in the Glen Cove community to help parents strengthen communication with their children and prevent them from using drugs by teaching their children the skills that help them resist the threats of tobacco, drugs, and violence. These tools help parents prepare their children for a successful transition from adolescence to early adulthood. Laurent also provides community based door to door outreach services to families in need of housing, food, clothes, school advocacy and family counseling.

Laurent is retired from the Glen Cove School District having worked as a Teacher’s Aide for over 30 years.

Emily Dunn, Life Skills Training Elementary School Facilitator

Emily Dunn provides evidence-based Life Skills Training to students enrolled in the Glen Cove Middle School and the Glen Cove Conolly and Landing Elementary Schools to help students bolster alcohol and substance abuse peer resistance skills and violence prevention skills. Students will develop an increased self esteem, develop healthy attitudes, and improve their knowledge of essential life skills – all of which promote healthy and positive personal development.

Emily is currently pursuing her masters of Social Work at Fordham University. She is a graduate of Molloy College. Prior to working at SAFE, Emily was a Social Work intern at the Glen Cove Youth Bureau.

Adriana Medina, CASAC -T

Adriana Medina is available to SAFE’s Community Walk-In Program to bilingual clientele who are in need of evaluation and referral services for alcoholism and substance abuse, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) crisis support, housing, employment, Department of Social Services liaison and community-based referrals.

Adriana completed her CASAC training in March 2017. She received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Iona college in New Rochelle.

Patti Averopoulos, Administrative Assistant to Executive Director

Patti Averopoulos is the Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director, providing support on all aspects of the agency’s daily operations as well as coordinating meetings and strategic planning sessions for SAFE’s board and the SAFE Glen Cove Coalition.  Patti also functions as the agency’s event planner, ensuring timely alcohol and substance use prevention, intervention and education programs and activities at school and within the community. Prior to joining SAFE, Patti provided temporary administrative/managerial oversight of medical office personnel, training of new staff including the permanent administrative manager, preparation and submission of payroll for a medical office in the North Shore LIJ health care system.
