SAFE ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2021

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • SAFE Board of Directors welcomes new member
  • All Board members participated in Coalition Strategic Planning Sessions
  • All Board members participated on the SAFE Glen Cove Coalition Committees
  • 5 Board members participated in Shed the Med’s Events
  • 2 Board members participated in workgroups hosted by Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of NY to discuss merger between the Office of Mental health and OASAS and the future role of prevention
  • Board Chair and Executive Director participated on Nassau County Community Services Advisory Board to collaborate on county-wide solutions on how to allocate future Opioid settlement funds

STAFF

  • 3 staff members participated in workgroups hosted by Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of NY to discuss merger between the Office of Mental health and OASAS and the future role of prevention
  • Additional bi-lingual outreach worker hired to address the increasing needs of the Community Walk In Program
  • 2 staff members completed mandated NYS OASAS Problem Gambling Prevention Training
  • 2 staff members completed Teen Intervene Training

FUNDING

  • SAFE received continued funding from Community Development Agency for Walk In Program September 2021-August 2022
  • The City of Glen Cove continued funding for “Keeping Glen Cove SAFE” opioid prevention awareness campaign
  • SAFE applied for two Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grants (SAPT) for Workforce Development and Fiscal and Program Stabilization and NYS OASAS Primary Prevention Infrastructure Grant to implement a new Evidence-Based Program (Too Good for Drugs)

SAFE PROGRAMS/SERVICES

  • The Community Walk In Program: 126 individuals were served (As of December 1st)
  • The Employee Assistance Program (EAP): 50 employees were served (As of December 1st)
  • Elementary and Middle School Life Skills Training Program (LST): 70  youth participated in the program
  • Bi-Lingual Parent Life Skills Training Program (LST): 40 parents participated in the program- Presentations made by GCPD Detective Lineras, Project HOPE and Gabriella Weinberg-Gitlin, LMSW regarding the increase in alcohol and substance use in youth and adults due to the Pandemic
  • SNAP representative at SAFE office on a weekly basis
