BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • 5 Board members participated in Shed the Med’s Events
  • 2 Board members participated in Red Ribbon Week
  • All Board members participated in Coalition Strategic Planning meetings

STAFF

  • All staff received trainings in Cultural Sensitivity and Ethics in Prevention to enhance knowledge and the quality of services provided to community residents

FUNDING

  • The City of Glen Cove continued funding for “Keeping Glen Cove SAFE” opioid prevention awareness campaign
  • SAFE received continued funding from Community Development Agency for Bi-lingual Community Outreach Program September 2023-August 2024
  • American Rescue Plan (BOOST) funds received to hire a bi-lingual, bi-cultural Services Advocate to enhance the outcomes of the Community Outreach Program

SAFE GLEN COVE COALITION ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2023

  • Coalition Committees and 4 SAFE Board members participated in Red Ribbon Week
  • Steve Chassman, Executive Director of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) presented on the legalization of marijuana, the increase in drug paraphernalia stores across Nassau County and the negative impact on youth
  • New law drafted and proposed by the Community Committee was successfully passed by the City Councilrestricting incoming stores that sell drug paraphernalia to B2 District areas as strong and effective laws and regulations were needed to protect youth from deadly addiction by reducing access to tobacco, vaping products and other drug paraphernalia
  • 2 Sticker Shock Campaigns created by the Youth and School Committees in collaboration with the Tobacco Action Coalition of Long Island to prevent underage drinking and vape/tobacco use entitled “LIVE SAFE”; Stickers disseminated throughout Downtown Business Improvement District. This initiative was made possible through a grant provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration
  • All Coalition Committees provided year-round prevention education and information awareness through the following events:

  • National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week
  • National Alcohol Awareness Month
  • National Prevention Week
  • GCPD Pre prom presentation regarding underage binge drinking
  • Recovery Speaker
  • Great American Smokeout/World No Tobacco Day
  • National Kick Butts Day/Great American Smokeout/World No Tobacco Day
